So clearly I’m very behind on my pictures posting, so these date back to the end of march.
I went on a trip to the capital city in Accra for a while and then to Lake Bosumtwi near Kumasi. Later on I finally managed to organize a trip to Mole national park so i could see the elephants! It was one of my biggest goals here in Ghana.

All these trips were so much fun and the people made it even better!
Here are only a few samples of what I was up to in all the all the locations.
Enjoy!

Natalie (the Ghanaidian)

So in the last week I’ve had to say a few goodbyes already. Even though I am here still for another month, I had to say goodbye to 2 of my close Obruni friends Kleo and Amanda.
I just want to say what a privilege it was to meet these wonderful people here on my adventure in Ghana. We have had so many good times and many memories to remember for a lifetime!
Although, I do plan on seeing them again in my future it’s just sad to say bye for now.
Love and will miss you!!!
p.s. I also want to shout out to my other Belgian friend Jolien who left a month ago as well! Miss you too!

Wow sorry this took so long!
So here are some pictures to acompany the last update I wrote!
Hope you enjoy them, they have given me so many good memories to last a lifetime!
I <3 Ghana

Love, Natalie (aka. Akua-Sewa Obruni)

Sorry everyone that I disappeared of a while.  I decided that I needed to disengage from technology for a little while and get lots in the culture!

I will post pictures very soon since I’ve done SO much since my last post. I really wanted to get some sight seeing in so I really started organizing trips with my friends. We managed to make it to Bui National Park where we went on Safari to see Hippos! It was such an adventure! Then the following weekend we went to the Monkey sanctuary where you got to hand feed monkeys in the wild. They were soooo cute! Then I went on a big adventure to Accra, the capital city of Ghana. We stayed in a nice resort on the ocean and I got to experience a big city life here in Ghana which is such a different lifestyle compared to the small city of Sunyani. However, after a week away I really started to miss my Sunyani life ha ha. We ended the week with a trip to lake Busumtwi which is the biggest fresh water body in west Africa i think? We stayed in this awesome little huts and hung out in hammocks by the beach.
So overall I’ve had a quite adventurous month in March! Next my plan is to travel to Mole National Park to see the elephants! So hopefully everything works out nicely and I’ll bring back nice pictures for you to see.

But for all my other adventures, pictures are coming soon!!! so stay tuned! :D

Miss everyone!

So on Monday the 7th of March there was a school trip to the waterfalls to the North. We were able to visit two of them. The first one was Fuller falls, it was very peaceful and beautiful! We spent only about an hour there, but it was enough time to enjoy it. You could walk up and enjoy the various layers of the falls. This is where I got to experience what its like to be a “celebrity”. Everyone here seemed to think it would be awesome to get a picture with the white girls! I barley got a chance to explore because everyone wanted pictures.. every time i always had to say “only one more and then i have to go!”. I didnt even know any of them… but hopefully i look fine in the pictures haha.

Then we went to Kintampo falls! This one was much more of a popular tourist site, and since it was a holiday weekend it was packed! So many people enjoying the water. This one you were allowed to go into the water and under the falls. The water wasnt very deep so it was safer… but with the amount of people there were running around I would hardly believe that in Canada something like this would be considered “safe” hahaha.
It was a lot of fun and of course I was prepared to go into the falls and I got soaked and refreshed!
It was a great day and I had a lot of fun with my new Obruni friends and Ghanaian friends!

Can’t wait for more adventures!

Hey Everyone!!
I didnt have access to fast internet this weekend so was unable to post what I wanted to.
So just to catch up, I would like to wish a HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY to my brother Mike!!!!!! I love you!!
His birthday was March 6th which also happens to be the Ghana independences day!!!

So I would like to say HAPPY BELATED GHANA INDEPENDENCES DAY!
I went to the early morning parade and then went swimming and hung out with friends

New news! 2 Belgian girls just moved in across from me so I am no longer the only Obruni around. They are doing their internship in physiotherapy here and are super nice! We are having a good time.

So here are a few pictures

Greetings! The weather has been so nice lately :)

Here are a few more pictures to keep you updated on my time here. I’ve almost taken 1000 pictures here! I keep my camera on me at all times to capture every moment :)

Work here is going slowly but surely. I’ve been working on a questionnaire that I will administer to 5 nearby schools in the neighboring communities. Its in regards to their school environmental clubs. The project is trying to get the schools involved in environmental issues, but also teach them to plant and grow trees not only for the environment, but also to fruit and harvest the fruit for income, hopefully they will teach others and even take the knowledge home to their parents.
Later this week we will go to the communities to check up on the mango and citrus trees we have planted at peoples households to see if they are taking care of them. We give them the trees for free and even plant them, all they have to do is fence them in so animals don’t eat them and water them and if they fruit, they get all the income. It seems easy, but community members don’t seem to understand this great benefit and just leave the trees to die or think that we are just using their property and they wont be able to keep the fruit in the end. So we have to sensitize them on this.

Anyways, just an update on what I’ve been doing!

Take care everyone!

Lots of love xoxox

Happy Family day! At least I hope it is today. Ha ha its definitely a Canadian holiday lol, but I will still celebrate it here! Even though my family is far away I want you all to know that I love you so very much! No matter the distance, I will always love you! I wish I could fly you all here to enjoy this day with me :)

On another not so happy note, I saw my first wild fire today! Its quite a problem here in the dry season. As we were driving through the forest reserve, one side of the road was completely scorched and full of ash, where as the other side was green and lively… what a sight! But this ruins the farms and the forests here. Part of the project is to help control the fires and educate those in the communities to be careful not to start wild fires.

Anyways, have a great day everyone!!

lots of love!

Yesterday I finally made it to the Wednesday market that everyone has talked about so much, it was quite exciting! So many booths and vendors.  I bought lots of vegetables, some peanut butter (freshly ground :) ) and some more fabric!
